What to do in an Emergency ?

Do you know what to do after an accident?
If you`re in an accident, do these things:

  1. Try to remain calm. 
  2. Immediately find a trusted adult. 
  3. When an adult is not present, call 9-1-1 or "0" for operator. 
  4. Briefly state the problem. 
  5. Give your full name and address. 
  6. Remain on the telephone for questions and instructions.

Do you pet cute, strange animals? 

  1. Never approach or try to pet an unfamiliar animal. 
  2. Be cautious, animals may bite when they get excited. 
  3. Remember! A small bite can be dangerous. 
  4. It is important to let an adult know if this happens. 
  5. If a trusted adult is not around, call 9-1-1 or "0" for operator.
  6. Don`t hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions!

Do you know the rules for safety on wheels?

  1. Head injuries can be serious, protect your head--wear a helmet. 
  2. See and be seen--wear proper clothes and reflectors. 
  3. Make sure your equipment is safe and properly adjusted. 
  4. Use marked paths and safe areas when possible. 
  5. Use hand signals when turning. 
  6. When riding bikes on the street, always go in the same direction as car traffic. 
  7. Don`t ride double.

What should you do when a bully tries to pick on you?

  1. Always try to stay with a group of friends. 
  2. Walk straight and tall as if you are not afraid. 
  3. Say "No" and walk away. Don`t Argue. 
  4. Tell a trusted adult.

How do you call for help in an emergency?

  1. Call for the police, firemen or rescue emergency, dial 9-1-1or call "O" for operator. 
  2. State the problem briefly. 
  3. Give your full name and address. 
  4. Remain on the telephone, don`t hang up. 
  5. Hang up only when you are told to do so.

What should I do if someone offers me drugs or alcohol? 

  1. Say "No". It takes courage to do what`s right. 
  2. Change the subject. 
  3. Suggest other activities like sports or games. 
  4. Choose friends who avoid alcohol or drugs. 
  5. Walk away and report it to a trusted adult.

I think my friend is using drugs and alcohol. What can I do? 

  1. Remember it takes courage to help a friend with a drug problem.
  2. Talk to your friend and try to help. 
  3. Tell your friend about the dangers of drugs. 
  4. Encourage your friend to talk to his or her parents or another trusted adult.

What do you do when someone picks a fight? 

  1. It takes real courage to walk away from a fight. 
  2. Fights are not the answer to solving problems.
  3. Take a step back. 
  4. Get the facts straight.
  5. Be willing to listen and don`t be afraid to admit you might be wrong. 
  6. Discuss ways to solve the problem.

Do you know what to do in case of fire? 

  1. The first thing you need to do is stay low and leave the building immediately!
  2. Call 9-1-1 from a neighbor`s house. 
  3. Never attempt to put out a fire yourself, no matter how small it is! 
  4. Don`t stop to take anything else with you. 
  5. Never go back into a burning building.

How can you practice fire safety?

  1. Never play with matches or lighters.
  2.  Always be careful around a stove, heater or open fire.
  3.  Don`t cook without an adult being present.
  4. If your clothes catch on fire, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"
  5. If your friend`s clothes catch on fire, don`t let him or her run. Yell, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"
  6. Get adult help or call 9-1-1 or "O" for operator.
  7. Don`t hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions

What do you do if you are home alone?

  1. Keep the doors and windows locked. 
  2. Don`t open them to anyone you don`t know and trust. 
  3. Speak through a closed door or peephole. 
  4. Never tell anyone you are home alone. 
  5. Immediately call your parents or a neighbor if you are afraid. 
  6. Keep emergency telephone numbers by the phone. 
  7. If the person doesn`t leave, call 9-1-1 or "O" for operator. 
  8. Don`t hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions.
